The future king of Brunei married his teenage bride yesterday following two weeks of pre-nuptial celebrations. The lavish ceremonials are scheduled to last for a further three days and reportedly cost the royal family $5m (£2.8m), but this is considered remarkably restrained by the opulent standards of celebrations in the oil-rich Sultanate. read more

SYDNEY (AFX) – Australia has negotiated an energy agreement with Mexico aimed at opening up a 50 bln aud market for liquefied natural gas (LNG) on the US west coast, The Australian newspaper reported.

It said Federal Resources Minister Ian Macfarlane revealed the plan at an energy conference here yesterday.

The newspaper reported Macfarlane as saying a memorandum of understanding had been scheduled to be signed this week but will be delayed because of the calling of Australian federal elections for Oct 9. read more

Getting fired is one of the sourest experiences you can have – unless, of course, you’re the head honcho of a major corporation. Far from being sour, getting booted from the top suite can be a mighty sweet experience.

Take the recent case of Sir Philip B. Watts, the former chairman of Shell Oil, which is based in London. He became known to many as Sir Philip the Finagler after it was discovered in an internal investigation that, on his watch, Shell had been cooking its books Enron-style, claiming to own way more oil reserves than it actually has. Thanks to this illegal accounting, the company now faces several investigations, major fines, and class-action lawsuits. read more
