Shell has asked for rebel investors in Royal Dutch Petroleum to provide details of their “characteristics” as the oil and gas giant seeks to tidy up its multi-billion pound restructuring.

The news comes after a number of high-profile City names emerged last week to vent their anger about the shake-up, which will leave them with a multi-million pound tax bill.

The Anglo-Dutch company is seeking ways to persuade a stubborn rump controlling 1.3pc of the shares to accept the terms of the merger with Shell Transport and Trading to create Royal Dutch Shell. read more

NEWARK, N.J. — A federal judge has allowed a stock-fraud lawsuit against Royal Dutch Shell PLC to continue, finding that the shareholders had “adequately” shown reason for the court to examine their allegations concerning the company’s restatements of its oil reserves.

The class-action lawsuit questions whether the company’s statements on its reserves, an important measure of future performance, purposely omitted or twisted important facts. read more

Shell to appeal judicial continuance of class action law suit
Elana Kornblit at 8:47 PM ET

Royal Dutch/Shell Group [corporate website] said Tuesday that it will appeal a decision which allows a class action lawsuit for stock fraud to continue against the company. A federal judge ruled Tuesday that the suit, questioning whether Shell’s statements on its reserves [JURIST report] purposely misrepresented important facts, adequately showed reason for further investigation into the shareholder plaintiffs’ allegations. The US Department of Justice [official website] has also launched a criminal investigation, according to the US District Judge John W. Bissell’s Tuesday opinion. This differs from the department’s June 29 statement that the criminal investigation was officially ended [JURIST report]. AP has more. read more

Royal Dutch Shell Whistleblower, Dr. John Huong Yiu Tuong, offers insider evidence to the Shell Brent Bravo Public Inquiry

By John Donovan of ShellNews.net

Information has reached us that Shell whistleblower, Dr John Huong, is in correspondence with the Scottish Authorities and has offered to give evidence to the recently announced Brent Bravo Public Inquiry into the deaths of two Shell employees on the Brent Bravo oil platform.

In April, Shell was fined £900,000 after admitting blunders leading to the deaths of two offshore workers Mr Moncrieff, of Invergowrie, Dundee, and Mr McCue, of Kennoway, Fife. Both were tragically suffocated by an escape of gas while inspecting a patch on a safety-critical pipeline in the leg of the platform. read more

Reuters: Nigerian protest shuts 14,000 bpd Shell oil output

Wednesday 17 August 2005

LAGOS (Reuters) – A community protest in Nigeria has forced Royal Dutch Shell to close 14,000 barrels per day of oil production, a company spokesman said on Wednesday.

The protest began on Tuesday as a result of a breakdown in talks between Shell and community leaders of Rukpokwu, in southeastern Rivers state, over compensation for an oil spill in 2003.

“There was a shutdown of Agbada-1. The flow station produces 14,000 barrels per day,” a spokesman said.

“We are doing everything we can to get them back to negotiations.” read more
