AN investigation is under way after a safety net failed to stop a North Sea oil worker crashing on to a rig’s platform.

The man broke an elbow when he fell 20ft from the helideck of Shell’s Tern Alpha.

Safety inspectors are now trying to establish why the safety equipment didn’t work.

Industry spokesman Jake Molloy said: “These nets are there to save people. It’s very worrying and could have been a lot worse.
