Galway Independent: Hundreds attend Rossport Five meeting

Thursday 22 Sept 2005

Over 300 people attended a public meeting of the Shell to Sea Campaign in Salthill on Monday night.

Bríd Ní Sheighin, daughter of Micheál O Seighin, one of the Rossport 5, at a public meeting organised by the Shell to Sea campaign in the Sacre Coeur Hotel on Monday.

The group has so far collected 16,000 signatures alone in Galway alone supporting the men’s cause. It has planned a major rally to take place in Dublin on 1 October and has called on all supporters to march from the Garden of Remembrance to the Dáil.

Ms Ní Sheighin said her father and the four other men are finding life in Cloverhill Prison difficult but the hundreds of letters of support that they get each week gives them the strength to carry on.

Bríd Ní Sheighin, daughter of Rossport Five prisoner Micheál Ni Sheighin, NUI Galway Law Lecturer Donnacha O’Connell and Dr Mark Garavan, Spokesperson for the Rossport Five, spoke at the meeting.
