LONDON – Shell is searching for a digital agency to handle its online communications and to design its website.
The company is understood to be asking agencies to provide evidence of experience in turning around corporate reputations. This has long been an area of concern for the global energy giant.
The winning agency will also be briefed to help establish an identity for the new company, Royal Dutch Shell, which was formed in July 2005. This came after a merger between Royal Dutch and Shell Transport.read more
Shell's new chairman to focus on maintaining profitability By Alfean Hardy
Shell Refining Company (Federation of Malaya) Bhd's new chairman, Saw Choo Boon, sees the main task ahead of him is to maintain the profitability the company has enjoyed over the past three years.
“It encompasses everything. Profitability means to see the company run as efficiently and optimally as possible. That would be one major real challenge,” he said.
The company has seen 11 consecutive quarters of profits, despite lower refining margins amid high crude oil prices. read more
Crude-oil futures dropped to a low of $67.85 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange on concerns that rising inflation will sap demand. But prices reversed course in Thursday's afternoon session, settling at $69.45, up 76 cents. Here is today's well of news about oil and energy.
BOLIVIA DRAWS INVESTORS: The president of Bolivia's state oil company Yacimientos Petroliferos Fiscales Bolivianos, or YPFB, says a string of foreign firms want to invest in the country's energy sector despite the leftist government's sweeping nationalization, Reuters reported. Meanwhile, Venezuela's Chavez will travel to Bolivia on May 26 to sign accords on the cooperation in the natural gas sector between YPFB and Venezuela's state-owned Petroleos de Venezuela SA, or PdVSA. In yet another sign of cooperation between two South American oil producers, Ecuador announced it plans to process its crude oil in Venezuela, at refineries owned by PdVSA, despite having turned down the option a few months ago.read more

Homeowners who signed on last winter with an energy marketer guaranteeing a fixed natural-gas price for the remainder of the year, or longer, may be kicking themselves right now.
The price of natural gas has fallen by more than 60 percent since wintertime highs above $15 per 1,000 cubic feet, and the long-term contracts available today are considerably cheaper.
For example, Columbia Gas of Ohio customers can today sign up for a one-year supply contract with Shell Energy Services and pay $12.70 per 1,000 cubic feet. Six months ago, Shell was offering a one-year fixed price of $15.60.read more
SEOUL (Reuters) – Oil rebounded from five-week lows to near $70 a barrel on Friday despite higher U.S. oil inventories as investors remain concerned over any supply disruptions from Iran and Nigeria.
U.S. light crude oil (CLc1) was trading 38 cents higher at $69.83 a barrel by 0350 GMT, after gaining 76 cents on Thursday. London Brent (LCOc1) was up 36 cents at $70.03.
Prices picked up as traders saw a buying opportunity after a slide on Thursday to $67.85, the lowest since April 10, with the potential for supply disruptions still a worry despite fears of high costs creating inflation and hitting demand.read more
