The Port Arthur News: Purves to leave PA refinery

PORT ARTHUR — The general manager of a local refinery will soon be moving up the corporate ladder.

Tom Purves, manager of the Motiva Enterprises refinery in Port Arthur, has been named vice president of manufacturing operations for the Americas.

According to a press release from Motiva, Purves will begin the new position on July 1 and will be based in Houston.

Purves has been with Shell/Motiva for 27 years and has worked in a variety of production and engineering roles at a number of sites, including Norco, Deer Park, Wood River and Bakersfield.

He has also held a variety of strategy and planning positions in Shell’s U.S.-based refining and chemicals regional organization.

While in Port Arthur, Purves has been active with the Partnership of Southeast Texas, Texas Energy Museum, Port Arthur Industrial and Stakeholders Group. He is also a 2002 graduate of Leadership Southeast Texas.

Purves, his wife Linda and daughter Allison will continue to reside in Beaumont where they are active members of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church.

Purves is filling the vacancy left by Rudy Goetzee, current vice president of manufacturing for the Americas, who is retiring after a 33-year career with Shell.
