The need to develop Oloibiri community in Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa State is a debt that would continue to haunt successive Nigerian governments and the Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC).

Special adviser to the Bayelsa State Governor on Political Matters, Chief Asara O. Asara, made the declaration while presenting a keynote address during the opening of a two-day orientation programme organised by the Oloibiri Youth Congress to curb militancy in the area.

Chief Asara stated as the first place oil was found in Nigeria, Oloibiri deserved to be accorded necessary amenities that could make it a modern town.

According to Chief Asara, proactive steps should be taken to transform the town, and remarked that its development should not be left to indigenes alone, considering its contribution to the nation’s economy.

External forces that had benefited greatly from the natural endowments of crude oil and gas rich community out to compensate the impoverished host in terms of development,” Chief Asara, who is also the paramount ruler of Akipelai community declared.

In the address titled, “Oloibiri Yesterday, and Today, What Next”, the political adviser, however, urged the youths to be law-abiding, take their studies seriously and get involved in politics and various skills in order to equip themselves academically, intellectually and economically for future leadership positions of the area.

He told them that to make a better bargain for the community, they must be friendly with visitors, avoid acts of hooliganism, rally round the administration of Dr Goodluck Jonathan and initiate viable programmes that could attract government’s assistance.
