Shell to Sea: ‘We are, and will remain, a non-violent and non-party political campaign’

corrib pipeline protest

(Campaigners block the exit of Lennon’s quarry with a sit down)

The campaign to send Shell to sea has never seen a more critical time. People remain shaken, wounded and hospitalised after last Friday’s beatings by Gardaí. Elements of the media, encouraged by senior government ministers, are attempting to portray us as violent aggressors.

We are, and will remain, a non-violent and non-party political campaign.

Although we are a community under siege, we remain confident of success. There is no other option. If this Fianna Fail/PD/Fine Gael supported project  succeeds it spells disaster for our community, for our environment, and for democracy as we know it. It will rob billions of Euros worth of Irish resources, which could support our ailing health and education systems, and pump them onto the international market for resale. It will set a precedent for corporate ownership of Irish resources and mean every community in the land is exposed to what is now happening in Erris. read more

news.etnow.com: Stage One Puts on a Slick Show for Shell Celebrations

Brent Display

Building the set to celebrate the Brent Field’s 30th year of operation in Oil and Gas, required a company that can deliver the degree of professionalism and skill demanded by a huge multinational company such as Shell.

Stage One, working for design agency Rapiergroup, was duly asked to produce a number of display areas complete with graphics, build several sculptural pieces and establish staging and presentation areas at the Aberdeen Conference Centre.

“This project proved to be a tough physical challenge as it required a huge amount of staging,” said Ted Featonby, project manager, Stage One. He continued: “This is demonstrated by the fact that at the height of the build we had nearly 40 Stage One employees on site.” read more

The Business understands the company has contacted potential bidders for its Reichstett and Petit Couronne plants in France to determine interest. It has hired an investment bank, believed to be JP Morgan or Citigroup, to aid it with the review. read more

Irish Times: Plan for Mayo riot overheard, says Dempsey

By: Michael O’Regan, Irish Times
Published: Nov 16, 2006

A telephone conversation, overheard by a TD, suggested that a riot had been planned in opposition to the Shell gas terminal in north Mayo, the Dail was told.

Minister for Natural Resources Noel Dempsey said: “When the National Oil Reserves Agency Bill 2006 was debated in this House last week, a colleague told me he overheard a conversation involving a man on a mobile phone in Grafton Street last Tuesday or Wednesday.

“My colleague heard mention of the word ‘Rossport’ and listened to the rest of the conversation, which basically involved the man telling the other person to be ready to go down on Friday because a riot would take place. I have no reason to doubt the honesty of the deputy who told me this story.” Mr Dempsey said that the local people protesting on “non-media days” had, by and large, engaged in peaceful protest. read more

The U.S. Interior Department earlier this week approved findings that would allow Shell and two other companies to move forward on the 160-acre test plots.

The findings included several environmental stipulations to be parts of the leases.

Shell accepted the leases and is excited about the opportunity to demonstrate its technology on federal land, said Jill Davis of the company’s Mahogany Research Project, which is aimed at extracting petroleum from oil shale. read more
