Corrib pipeline battle: Shell to Sea national protest rally on Saturday 24 February 2007

After another ‘day of solidarity’ in Ballinaboy on Friday, the Shell to Sea campaign is holding a ‘National rally’ this coming Saturday 24th February in Dublin.

The march will assemble at the Garden of Rememberance, Parnell Square at 2pm and proceed down O’Connell St, around D’Olier St and back to the GPO where the it will be addressed by speakers from the Trade Union movement, the Rossport community and the Rossport solidarity camp.

The event will be chaired by a representative of Dublin Shell to Sea. read more

The debate over climate change is becoming as much about economics as the environment.
 
Companies such as Entergy Corp., BP plc. and Royal Dutch Shell are working to reduce or offset their greenhouse gas emissions, which are linked to climate change, saying it’s just good business.

“It’s not a trade-off to be an environmentally conscious company,” said Sarah Howell, a spokeswoman for BP. Both BP and Entergy lead their industries in calling for reductions in greenhouse gas emissions as well as reducing their own. read more

NO one is surprised when environmental groups object to big development projects. But when independent scientists, state agencies and even the federal government raise serious questions about a project, it’s time to stop and reconsider.

The project is the proposal by Broadwater Energy, a partnership of the Shell Oil Company and TransCanada Corporation, to build a huge, floating liquefied natural gas terminal in Long Island Sound. And the only conclusion one can come to after reading what scientists and government agencies say about the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission’s study of the environmental impact of the project is that it’s time to declare a do-over. read more
