ShellNews.net: Update on the allegations against Sakhalin Energy CEO, Ian Craig

By Alfred Donovan: Wednesday 27 June 2007

We have today received confirmation that the Sakhalin Public Prosecutors office has indeed conducted an investigation into allegations of bribery and corruption relating to Mr Craig and a number of companies, but has closed the case. There is no explanation given for reaching that decision.

We can only assume that either Shell EP General Counsel, Mr Keith Ruddock, was unaware of these facts when he corresponded with us on the subject earlier this week, or considered the information too sensitive to disclose.

With regard to the threats made by Shell to third party companies in relation to this website (eventually confirmed by Mr Ruddock) we discovered that by coincidence, the Wikipedia article about our website was vandalised in the same week that the Cease & Desist notifications were sent by Shell to the website hosting companies. We would point our for the record that when Mr Ruddock initially denied knowledge of the Shell action against our webhosting companies, it was because he genuinely had no knowledge of the action being taken by another department within Shell.

The vandalism to the Wikipedia article was rectified before we even became aware of what had happened. That was the first act of vandalism since the article was first published on 14 June 2006. An attack was also made on our Live Chat facility last week. The coincidence of the series of moves initially led us to speculate that we were being subjected to a coordinated campaign.  However, on reflection it is inconceivable, even to us, that Shell would have any involvement with petty vandalism. The threats of legal action are more in keeping with their style.
