Bloomberg: Shell Irish Gas Refinery Fire Deliberately Set, Scotsman Says

By Mathew Carr

Feb. 23 (Bloomberg) — Royal Dutch Shell Plc said a fire at a natural gas refinery being built in western Ireland appears to have been deliberately set, the Scotsman newspaper reported, citing the Press Association.

Damage was caused to materials being used by contractors working on the Corrib Gas terminal near Belmullet, according to a report on the newspaper’s Web site.

The 200 million-euro ($297 million) refinery being built by Shell Ireland has been the subject of continual protest, the report said. More than 100 large timber mats used to construct temporary roads through bog land around the refinery site have been destroyed, it said.
