Statement by Iain Percival, retired Royal Dutch Shell Global Chief Petroleum Engineer

Iain Percival responds to anonymous postings / questions on this website.

For the record, I worked for Shell from 1973 – 2006 except for one year 1975 – 1976 during which I attended the Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh following the (then) MEng (Petroleum Engineering) programme.

My final position in Shell from 2003 – 2006 began as Global Head Hydrocarbon Maturation and was quickly changed to Global Chief Petroleum Engineer. Yes, in answer to one of the many anonymous postings / questions, I was deeply involved in the follow up activities resulting from the reserve recategorisation and resultant process improvement.

I have little to no energy to commence any kind of “on-line” reserve tuition as suggested by one of the posting contributers. I remain confident however in the assertions I have made on this site and stand by my observations that Shell will prosper as a result of the technology, people, structure and process it has to call on.
