June 30 (Bloomberg) — Unidentified gunmen attacked an oil- pumping facility run by the Nigerian unit of Royal Dutch Shell Plc, killing at least five people, the Guardian reported, citing military spokesmen.
The gunmen raided Shell’s Oloma facility on June 28, destroying a boat housing the company’s employees and attacking a military post on nearby Bonny Island, the Lagos-based newspaper said, citing military officials Way Olabisi and Sagir Musa.
An oil worker was beheaded in the Shell facility, while three civilians were killed, the Guardian said. A soldier guarding the facility was missing, the newspaper added.
Bonny Island is the location of Shell’s main crude oil export terminal in Nigeria as well as the country’s biggest liquefied natural gas plant.
