Shell still supporting the Brunei Royal Family

Brunei Shell Refinery hosted a dinner on Saturday for His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Deputy Sultan at the Royal Brunei Polo and Riding Club to commemorate the 25th anniversary of its establishment.On arrival, the Deputy Sultan and Her Royal Highness Paduka Seri Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Sarah were greeted by Minister of Energy at the Prime Minister’s Office Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Dewa Major General (R) Dato Seri Pahlawan Awang Haji Mohammad Haji Daud. Accompanying Their Royal Highnesses was HRH Prince ‘Abdul Malik.

Also present to welcome Their Royal Highnesses were boards of directors, as well as management and staff, of Brunei Shell Petroleum (BSP) and Brunei LNG.

The minister, in his welcoming speech, said that the Deputy Sultan officially opened Brunei Shell Refinery in 1984.

“Since the plant opened 25 years ago, it has achieved something that we can all be proud of, both regionally and internationally.”

He also recalled a time in 1983 when the plant first began operations by producing 10,000 barrels of oil a day.

“In 2003, the plant increased its output to 12,000 barrels a day to cater to the market demand of its time,” he noted.

Brunei Shell Refinery, whose staff is 100 per cent local, is also recognised as one of the safest and most reliable plants in the world.

In 2000, the refinery produced Premium 97, Super 92 and Regular 85, all of which are lead-free.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Sultan, in his speech, congratulated the Brunei Shell Refinery for all its achievements in the past 25 years as well as being one of the few companies that boasts of 100 per cent local workforce.

HRH also said that Bruneians are capable of holding important posts to contribute to the nation’s aspirations and goals, while lauding the contributions made by the staff at the refinery, including those who retired, for the success of the company.

Meanwhile, the event also saw the presentation of certificates of appreciation to former Brunei Shell Refinery superintendents and health safety and environment (HSE) officers.

Among those who received the certificates were Dato Paduka Awang Haji Hamdillah Haji Abdul Wahab and Brunei Shell Refinery Manager Haji Yahya Haji Mohammad. The dinner also saw a $25,000 donation from BLNG to the Pengiran Muda Mahkota Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah Orphans Fund, and on hand to receive the contribution was the fund’s chief executive officer, Dato Paduka Haji Ali Hashim Haji Daud.
