Royal Dutch Shell Managing Director fails to appear before Corruption Commission

1 December 2010

A Managing director of Royal Dutch Shell yesterday failed to appear before the operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) after he was summoned by the commission in the ongoing $240million scam rocking Panalpina World Transport Holding Limited.

He was said to be indisposed.

Head, media and publicity of EFCC, Mr. Femi Babafemi who confirmed the development, said the Shell MD wrote a letter to the EFCC explaining that his inability to honour the invitation was due to illness.

He was said to have promised to honour the invitation when he recovers.

It will be recalled that following the raiding of some offices in Lagos and the arrest of some officials, the EFCC summoned top officials of Halliburton and Royal Dutch Shell to appear over $180million and $240 scams respectively.

Fifteen officials of both firms were expected to honour the invitation aimed at helping investigation into the cases at hand with the EFCC disclosing its decision of taking its investigation of the Swiss company side by side with its investigation in the alleged $180 million Halliburton bribery allegation.

Operatives of the EFCC last Friday stormed Panalpina’s Nigerian office where it arrested 11 top officials of the company.

Those arrested included the General Manager, Trevor Burrel, and Head of Finance in Nigeria, Beuler Alphonso.
