Cyber attacks on Royal Dutch Shell Plc .com website: perpetrators risk JAIL

Breaking News… Thursday 24 January 2013:

A 22-year-old is jailed for 18 months for carrying out cyber attacks with hacking group Anonymous. Christopher Weatherhead, of Holly Road, Northampton, was convicted last month for taking part in distributed denial of service, or DDoS, attacks on sites including Visa, Mastercard and PayPal.

He was sentenced at Southwark Crown Court along with Ashley Rhodes, 28, who was jailed for seven months after pleading guilty.

The pair were charged with conspiring to impair the operation of computers between August 1, 2010 and January 22, 2011.

Co-defendant Peter Gibson, 24, of Castletown Road, Hartlepool, was deemed to have played a lesser role in the conspiracy, which he also admitted, and given a six-month suspended sentence.

Jake Birchall, 18, from Chester, will be sentenced on February 1. He had also admitted the conspiracy.

Judge Peter Testar said: “It is intolerable that when an individual or a group disagrees with a particular entity’s activities they should be free to curtail that activity by means of attacks such as those which took place in this case.”

If the perpetrators are being paid by a third party, then it would be a much more serious matter amounting to a criminal conspiracy. We have NO evidence that Shell has any involvement and Royal Dutch Shell Company Secretary Michiel Brandjes has already stated that Shell is not involved and has no knowledge of what is going on. We accept that Mr Brandjes is being completely truthful. However, he would not be made aware of any such activity. Furthermore, we do know for certain (and have proof in authentic Shell internal documents), that Shell has engaged in a range of hostile covert activity against us, including a global spying operation involving Shell Global Security. In this connection Shell has used an external specialist unit with expertise in the cyber activity that has been directed at our website day and night for over a year. We are fed up of what is going on and strongly object to the threats made by the anonymous perpetrators. We have retained all of the information, including the threats. UNLESS THE ACTIVITY STOPS IMMEDIATELY, WE WILL PRESS THE UK POLICE TO INVESTIGATE FURTHER IN THE LIGHT OF THE MULTIPLE CONVICTIONS AND ASSOCIATED JAIL SENTENCES ANNOUNCED TODAY.
