Hi, John

I am one of the Rossport 5.

I have followed the stream of detail on your web-site from OSSL in their exposé of gardai and much/many more. Thank you.

One very strange item  or dynamic , and not highlighted so far:-    OSSL have named many people and items that they delivered on behalf of Shell,  apart from the consignments of booze,  and the alleged recipients or gifters have in no case denied the veracity of the allegations. Of course it is more difficult to deny the matter when the goods are in existence – sheep pens, cattle crushers, TV sets, houses painted etc – than in the case of consumer items such as alcohol which have a habit of leaving no physical evidence. Surely on balance and objectively, it is not likely that OSSL people are truthful in all cases where physical remains exist and are then not truthful in the one case where physical evidence by its very nature is missing?. It seems to me that in a civil case the veracity of OSSL would have to be accepted.

It is worth noting that the statement of Roadbridge, denying that they engaged in bribery on behalf of Shell, merely verifies what was already made clear in your pages by OSSL, that the Invoices presented to Roadbridge were for goods that, were they delivered, would be legitimate.

Apart from the OSSL details the efforts by Shell to bribe the editor of the Western People, the main local weekly paper and the offer of substantial money to a young local businessman have never been questioned.

Curiouser.

Our Story, the Rossport 5 – A review of the book published by Small World Media

Extract

Five men from the village of Rossport, Co.Mayo, were jailed when they refused to stop resisting workers from Shell who had been awarded a Compulsory Acquisition Order to put a high-pressure gas pipeline through their land. They became national heros of a fast-growing campaign to defy the multi-nationals and their government backers and make them build their gas refinery at sea. This was the Shell to Sea campaign and this book tells the story of ‘The Rossport 5’ in their own words.

Rossport Five ….contributor….we have something in common

John , when the system for reimbursing OSSL  for very very many landowners” favours “broke down due to Shell duping Roadbridge regarding the content of invoices submitted and worded by Shell to hide what both Roadbridge and Shell are NOW CALLING ….”illegal and unethical “….OSSL despite serious threats from middle management in the Shell Corrib team found that they were forced to approach senior Shell management in the form of the CEO to have a continuing and growing problem of Shells making solved.

The route taken for resolution was arduous ..when it should have been simple, but even the CEOs thoughts turned to self preservation.. (Arse covering to you and me ) regardless of the consequences for others in OSSL ….in order to silence us we were told …..any disclosure would result in ….OSSL never working in the Oil and Gas industry again …..and more disturbingly a very frightening assurance that imprisonment was real possibility because we delivered the police alcohol on Connor Byrnes instruction – a middle management Shell person for ten years at least whom they now claim …RATHER AMAZINGLY ….did not work for them …..

The imprisonment threat was very real …but also very stupid …but it was only a threat aimed at a little hick small town vendor …who would no doubt run away in fear ….unlike the men of Rossport who stood their ground and went to prison heads held high …….their claims about safety issues were vindicated …the pipeline was deemed unsafe ….who will ever forget the CEOs hand written notes in the court document …”it would be best to jail these people “….. Is that what Crothers of Shell told KPMG to threaten OSSL ?…….

…..what follows next .?..the “mistakes were made on Corrib “speeches  Byrne didn’t actually work for Shell …..rogue movements made without permission …gross misuse of Shell gifting policy …

We took action when we discovered the enormity of “favours ” ……..OSSL not here anymore because we don’t use gloves ..hats ….boots …safety specs …or toilet paper anymore ..so we sent them packing ….we do meet them from time to time in Hotels ….but we don’t buy anything …

….hold on is that the cops at the door !!!……..this should be interesting, excuse me officer.
