Garda Ombudsman to investigate Shell ‘booze bribes’ allegations

Shell said it welcomes the news of an investigation, and that it will co-operate fully.

The Ombudsman told TheJournal.ie this evening:

The Garda Ombudsman received material from the Garda Siochána in accordance with section 85 of the Garda Siochána Act 2005. Following consideration of that material, the Garda Ombudsman has today begun an investigation.

Shell E&P Ireland Limited (SEPIL) said it welcomes the investigation into OSSLs allegations.

It said that in recent weeks, SEPIL provided information to Supt Murphys examination and will also co-operate fully with GSOCs forthcoming investigation. read more

This follows GSOC’s (Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission) receipt of the findings of an investigation into the matter, led by a senior Mayo Garda, Superintendent Thomas Murphy.

Senior garda has sent his report to GSOC

THE garda watchdog is expected to reveal today (Tuesday) that it will open an investigation into allegations by a former Corrib gas contractor who claims he supplied a large quantity of alcohol to Belmullet Garda Station before Christmas 2007. This follows GSOC’s (Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission) receipt of the findings of an investigation into the matter, led by a senior Mayo Garda, Superintendent Thomas Murphy.

A GSOC spokesman said yesterday it was ‘considering the content of that material’ while the Garda Press Office confirmed the examination has been completed and ‘all details passed on’ to the garda watchdog. read more

Garda Ombudsman Commission to investigate OSSL allegations

The Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission (GSOC), the Irish independent statutory body responsible for receiving and dealing with complaints about the Irish police force, the Garda Síochána, has decided to launch a full investigation of OSSL allegations against Shell. This was after receiving the findings of an investigation by Superintendent Thomas Murphy, including evidence and witness statements obtain by him. 

The Garda had previously launched an internal investigation that concluded there was no evidence to support the OSSL allegations. read more

Shell to Pay $280 Million for Share of Brazilian Off-Shore Drilling Rights

In what CEO Peter Voser refers to as “one of the largest deep water oil accumulations in the world,” Royal Dutch Shell (NYSE: RDS-A & RDS-B), along with four other oil producers, will pay $280 Million for a 35-year contract to begin drilling in the Libra discovery in the Santos Basin, located about 105 miles off the Brazilian coast of Rio de Janeiro, Shell announced today.

According to Shell’s statement, Brazil’s governmental oil regulator estimates the Libra find has between 8 billion and 12 billion barrels of “recoverable resources.” read more
