SHELL INTENT ON FORCED RETURN TO OGONILAND?

We understand that killing the Ogoni people is not new to Shell neither does the company use its conscience in dealing with Ogoni issues, however, Shell and the NPDC’s forceful entry into Ogoni oilfields remains unacceptable to us as a people.

Regular visitors will be aware that we publish on a daily basis extracts from the Esther Kiobel writ served on multiple Royal Dutch Shell companies on 28 June 2017.

The writ is all about Shell’s evil alliance with a corrupt Nigerian regime against the Ogoni people, who had the misfortune of living in oil rich lands. In Saudi Arabia they would have ended up extremely wealthy citizens, but instead remain exploited and impoverished, living in a nightmare environment of oil contamination. All down to a greedy ruthless oil giant.

Based on communications we are receiving currently from Ogoni representatives, there seems to be a striking similarity between what was happening in Ogoniland over two decades ago and the circumstances today.

Shell wanted to break the Ogoni population’s resistance to Shell’s activities and to clear the way to a resumption of oil production.

Compare that situation with the content of the warning emails received earlier today from Ogoni sources, which appear genuine.

Subject: Crisis Loom in Ogoni as Soldiers Back Shell’s Forceful Resumption of Oil Mining

To: “Ogoninews.com” <[email protected]>
The MOSOP Kingdom Coordinators’ Forum wishes to alert the general public of a planned crackdown and violation of human rights in Ogoniland as Shell and the NPDC backed by Nigerian soldiers begin the laying of pipelines in Ogoni against the wishes of the people.

The MOSOP Kingdom Coordinators Forum representing all 6 Ogoni kingdoms and 2 special areas vehemently condemn these actions of the NPDC and Shell and demand immediate withdrawal from the Ogoni territories.

We state categorically that neither Shell nor the NPDC are accepted in Ogoniland for the resumption of oil mining.

We therefore call on Nigeria’s military authorities to avert the impending bloodshed and mindless killing which is the clear intention of this affront.

We understand that killing the Ogoni people is not new to Shell neither does the company use its conscience in dealing with Ogoni issues, however, Shell and the NPDC’s forceful entry into Ogoni oilfields remains unacceptable to us as a people.

We further state that we are committed and willing to peacefully and non-violently confront these intruders if they fail to comply with our demand for immediate withdrawal from Ogoniland.

Subject: MOSOP Condemns The Unapproved Entry into Ogoni For Oil Resumption Activities
Date: 26 July 2017 at 15:16:34 BST
To: “Ogoninews.com” <[email protected]>

The Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni of the Ogoni People (MOSOP) strongly disapproves and condemns the entry into Ogoni through the back door by Shell/NPDC for oil production activities under military shield.

MOSOP thus demands the immediate withdrawal of Shell/NPDC from all parts of Ogoniland. forthwith.

MOSOP further warns that the oil corporations will be held responsible for any crisis that erupts in the area.

We are concerned that while Shell/NPDC has refused to make its contributions for the Ogoni cleanup, it continues to make irresponsible maneuvers to re-enter Ogoniland for oil production. Inadvertently, Shell/NPDC wants Ogoni to pay for the cleanup of the environment.

MOSOP wants to make it clear that oil resumption is not on the Ogoni card at the moment. Moreover, the state of the Ogoni environment cannot support further production of oil at this time.

We note that it is actions like this that has pitched the communities against the oil companies and led to gross human rights violations and the current crises in the entire Niger Delta.

We would further warn that failure to heed our demand regarding immediate withdrawal from Ogoni, we would have no choice than to take all civilized steps to ensure justice for the Ogoni.
