Shell rendering of its Vito deep-water development in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico. Vito will feature a new, simplified host design and associated infrastructure.

HOUSTONApril 24, 2018 /PRNewswire/ — Shell Offshore Inc. (Shell), a subsidiary of Royal Dutch Shell plc, today announces the final investment decision for Vito, a deep-water development in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico with a forward-looking, break-even price estimated to be less than $35 per barrel. This decision sets in motion the construction and fabrication of a new, simplified host design and subsea infrastructure.

Vito is expected to reach peak production of approximately 100,000 barrels of oil equivalent (boe) per day, which represents a significant contribution to our continued growth in the Gulf of Mexico.  The development currently has an estimated, recoverable resource of 300 million boe.

“With a lower-cost developmental approach, the Vito project is a very competitive and attractive opportunity industry-wide,” said Andy Brown… FULL ARTICLE

The Dutch supermajor is selling off everything from its retail stations to a refinery in Argentina, but won’t give up its stake on the Vaca Muerta shale.

By Daniel J. Graeber: April 24, 2018

April 24 (UPI) — The Vaca Muerta shale formation in Argentina has substantial growth potential remaining, Shell said Tuesday after it unloaded its downstream business.

For close to $1 billion in cash, Royal Dutch Shell said it was selling off everything from its retail service stations to its refinery in Buenos Aires to Raízen, the third largest energy company in Brazil. After the close, Shell will still have a footprint in the downstream, or refinery side, of the energy sector in Argentina.

“Raízen has already delivered significant value for us in Brazil and we will remain an important fuel supplier to Argentina under this deal,” John Abbott, the director of downstream activity for Shell, said in a statement.

Downstream refers to the exploration and production side of the industry. Not included in the agreement with Raízen was Shell’s stake in the Vaca Muerta shale, one of the more promising prospects in the world.

Vaca Muerta, located in Neuquén province, is considered one of the best shale basins in Latin America. All told, the basin contains about 16 million barrels of oil and 308 trillion cubic feet of natural gas.

“Shell sees substantial long-term growth potential in Argentina’s shale resources,” the company’s statement read.

Vaca Muerta has already drawn in some of the biggest energy companies in the world. Norwegian energy company Statoil expanded its footprint in November and French supermajor Total suggested last yearit had the revenue stream necessary to move forward with the development of the Vaca Muerta shale.

Shell is on pace to slim down by shedding $30 billion from its portfolio. Shell’s Middle East subsidiary agreed last month to sell the entire capital in its Iraqi division to Japan’s Itochu Corp. for $406 million. The deal includes Shell’s 19.6 percent stake in the West Qurna 1 oil field in southern Iraq, one of the biggest in the world.

SINGAPORE (Reuters) – Shell and Inpex are on the final stretch of a years-long race to export gas from offshore northern Australia, where both have spent billions of dollars building the world’s biggest maritime vessels to grab a slice of Asia’s booming LNG market. Anglo-Dutch energy major Royal Dutch Shell and Inpex, Japan’s biggest oil and gas producer, are vying for first gas from two overlapping fields after delays and cost overruns that have plagued both projects. The pair have spent billions on offshore facilities, including Shell’s 490 meter (1,600 ft) long Prelude floating liquefied natural gas unit and Inpex’s Ichthys Explorer semi-submersible platform, both the world’s largest of their class. A Chief United States District Judge Joy Flowers Coni has ruled on the side of Pennsylvania landowners in a class action alleging a Royal Dutch Shell PLC U.S. subsidiaries SWEPI LP (formally known as Shell Western E&P) and Shell Energy Holding GP, LLC failed to pay contractual bonuses on oil and gas leases.

The class action is being prosecuted by Thomas J. Walney (“Walney”) and Rodney A. Bedow, Sr. (“Bedow”) on behalf of certain Pennsylvania landowners who executed gas and oil leases for the benefit of SWEPI LP.

In this action, Walney and Bedow (collectively, “plaintiffs”) allege that SWEPI LP and its general partner, Shell Energy Holding GP, LLC, failed to pay bonus monies that were owed to the various class members under the terms of their respective leases.

The above information is extracted from the court docs below. Basically, Shell tried to have the case thrown out, but the Judge decided otherwise.

Opinion referred to in Court Order below: Filed 20 April 2018: 55 pages
