Shell Sees Strong Potential for Permian Basin Assets

Bruce Palfreyman, general manager of Shell’s Permian asset group, said the company believes it has the best position in the Delaware, part of the Permian Basin in West Texas, in terms of size and rock quality. The company holds 300,000 net acres in the Delaware through its joint venture with Anadarko Petroleum Corp., with more than 5,000 future well locations on a risk basis.

Shell acquired the acreage in 2012 from Chesapeake Energy, and has spent the past three years maturing and de-risking the acreage, Palfreyman told reporters during a media event Monday in Houston to outline Shell’s strategy on its unconventional oil and gas business. The company has pursued a high-grade strategy for its Permian acreage, selling off peripheral acreage. Shell’s position in the Delaware contains 2 billion barrels of oil. read more

In February 2016, Royal Dutch Shell plc announced in its fourth quarter 2015 financial statement that it was postponing the final investment decision (FID) on the Bonga South West/Aparo (BSWA) deep water project offshore Nigeria, in an effort to curtail spending amid the current low oil price environment. Shell’s decision to postpone the FID on BSWA comes after Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company (SNEPCo) announced last year that it was committed to the project. In February 2015, the company’s managing director Tony Attah denied reports that the energy firm had stopped the development due to the slump in oil price and confirmed that it was progressing the tender for engineering, procurement and construction contracts related to BSWA. read more

Shell Gets Fram Field Consent

by  Jon Mainwaring: Rigzone Staff: Monday, October 22, 2012

The UK government announced Monday it has given consent to Royal Dutch Shell for it to develop the Fram oil and gas field, offshore UK.

The Fram field, located 135 miles east of Aberdeen in around 330 feet of water, is expected to produce an average of 35,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day, according to the Department of Energy and Climate Change.

In a statement, UK Energy Minister John Hayes commented:

“The durability of oil production in the North Sea constantly confounds expectation. It is a tribute to the high-tech advances and expertise of British industry, which has constantly pushed the boundaries of what can be produced. read more

Shell Completes First Phase of Gannet Oil Recovery Op

by  Jon Mainwaring: Rigzone Staff: Tuesday, September 25, 2012

Royal Dutch Shell announced Tuesday that it has finished the first phase of its operation to remove oil from the Gannet pipeline in the UK North Sea.

A major oil spill occurred at the Gannet Alpha platform in August 2011, but the recovery operation aimed at collecting the majority of the oil that remains in the carrier pipe only gained approval last month.

Shell reported in a statement that it has now completed the operation to remove oil contained in the outer carrier pipe of the Gannet F flowline bundle. The recovery operation involved the use of subsea pumps to recover oil into storage tanks on a recovery vessel. The recovered oil has been returned onshore for disposal via a licensed waste oil contractor read more

Shell Schools: Supporting Expat Families

by  Jon Mainwaring: Rigzone Staff: Thursday, June 21, 2012

A key concern for many oil field workers, whether based offshore or onshore in a remote location, is how to maintain a family life – particularly if the oil worker has a young family.

For a worker based out of Aberdeen, Scotland operating in the North Sea is a straightforward deal: several weeks of well-paid work on a rig followed by a few weeks of quality time at home with the family.

Regular, quality time with your family becomes a bit more complicated if you are working halfway across the world from them. Oil and gas operations in remote locations often do not have the kinds of facilities nearby that are required by a young family. read more
