UPDATE 1-Shell scraps plans for new Canadian refinery

CALGARY, Alberta, July 8 (Reuters) – Royal Dutch Shell Plc (RDSa.L:Quote, Profile, Research) has canceled plans to build a new multibillion-dollar refinery near Sarnia, Ontario, due to poor market conditions and surging costs, the oil major said on Tuesday.

Canada proposes refinery, dump

Shell Canada plans a giant refinery along five miles of St. Clair River shoreline now dotted with farms and marinas, across from St. Clair and Marine City. The refinery would process up to 250,000 barrels a day of heavy crude oil from rich tar sands in Alberta, making fuel for the Canadian market.

Geese covered in oil; Four birds shunned by other fowl
