Shell Starts Shale Gas Exploration in Southeast Turkey

Royal Dutch Shell Plc (RDSA) and Turkiye Petrolleri AO, Turkey’s state oil and gas company, started exploring for shale gas in the southeast of the country, Energy Minister Taner Yildiz said.

Exploration began last week in Diyarbakir’s Saribugday-1 field, Yildiz said in Ankara during a meeting with Shell’s Chief Executive Officer Peter Voser, according to the state-owned Anatolia news agency.

There may be 13 trillion cubic meters of shale gas reserves, 1.8 trillion cubic meters of which is recoverable, Ismail Bahtiyar, chairman of the Turkish Association of Petroleum Geologists, said April 20. read more

Shell assessing Black Sea oil exploration with Turkey’s TPAO

(Reuters) – Royal Dutch Shell (RDSa.L) is assessing oil exploration and production opportunities in the Black Sea with Turkish state-owned oil firm TPAO, Shell Chief Executive Peter Voser said on Tuesday.

Voser was speaking at a news conference in Ankara with Turkish Energy Minister Taner Yildiz. Voser was also set to meet Turkey’s Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan.

Last November, TPAO signed an accord with Shell for hydrocarbon exploration and production in the Mediterranean and southeastern Turkey. read more

ANKARA, Turkey (AP) — Royal Dutch Shell on Wednesday signed a deal with Turkish state-run petroleum company, TPAO, to search for oil and gas offshore in the Mediterranean and onshore in Turkey’s southeast region.

The deal allows the companies to search for oil and natural gas and to produce and share any discoveries. Offshore search efforts will concentrate off the Mediterranean coast of Antalya.

“God willing, we will reach important signs and with these signs … TPAO, will reach gas and oil discoveries,” Energy Minister Taner Yildiz said. read more

Turkey’s state-owned oil company, Turkish Petroleum Corporation (TPAO), has reached an agreement with Royal Dutch Shell to explore for oil and gas off of Turkey’s Mediterranean coast.

The deal between TPAO and the Dutch oil giant covers drilling in the maritime zones off of Turkey’s southern province of Antalya. Shell will undertake the transfer of the drilling rig and financing of the production from possible findings in the zone’s 2,500-meter deep seabed. Exploratory drillings in deep waters cost around USD 300 million. read more

Turkey, Shell Exploration Deal Not ‘Political Move’, Yildiz Says

Nov. 18 (Bloomberg) — An oil and gas exploration agreement Turkey will sign with Royal Dutch Shell Plc next week is not “a political move”, Turkey’s Energy Minister Taner Yildiz said.

The accord for exploration on land and in sea, including the Mediterranean, is planned to be signed on Nov. 23 or Nov. 24, Yildiz said in televised comments in Istanbul today.

A consortium including Anglo/Dutch oil company Shell has won a hotly contested privatization auction of Turkish refiner Tupras with a bid reported to be just over $4 billion.

13 Sep 2005, 17:41 GMT – According to reports Shell and its consortium of local allies led by Koc Holdings beat eight other suitors with their offer of $4.14 billion to secure a 51% ownership of state-owned Turkish Petroleum Corp. (Tupras). The major asset of the acquisition is a 500,000 barrels-a-day refinery in the eastern European state.

However, the competition was fierce as pre-auction predictions valued Tupras at over a billion dollars less than Shell’s winning bid. Shell faced its sternest competition from a joint venture comprising state-owned Indian Oil and Turkey’s Calik Enerji Sanayii, as well as OYAK, a Turkish industrial conglomerate. read more
