RTE Interactive (Ireland): Shell axes 128 jobs at Mayo pipeline
“The company said the decision was made as a result of the ongoing blockade of its sites in Mayo.”: Posted Tuesday 9 August 2005
The multi-national company, Shell, has announced that it is to lay off 128 workers at the Corrib gas pipeline in Co Mayo.
It follows a move to lay off 91 workers at two other Shell sites in recent weeks.
The company said the decision was made as a result of the ongoing blockade of its sites in Mayo.
Five Mayo men were jailed more than a month ago for their refusal to obey a High Court order not to obstruct the construction of the controversial gas pipeline.
