VIENNA (Reuters) – Oil major Shell, Italian energy group Eni and Austrian oil and gas firm OMV have been awarded an exploration licence off the northwest coast of Ireland, OMV said on Wednesday.

The licence, 2/05, covered a zone in the deepwater area of the Irish Rockall Trough roughly 150 km off the coast of Donegal and included four exploration blocks, OMV said in a statement.

Operator Shell held a 50 percent stake in the joint venture, OMV said. Eni had 40 a percent stake while OMV held the remaining 10 percent.

“The new licence is adjacent to licence 2/94 which is held by the same joint venture, and contains the 2002 Dooish discovery, which is currently under evaluation,” OMV said.
