Royal Dutch Shell Plc .com: Intl. companies competing for presence in Iran

TEHRAN — Pars Oil and Gas Company managing director Akbar Torkan on Wednesday said six international companies are competing for contracts in the Assaluyeh region of Iran’s southern Bushehr Province.

Presently, the international companies of Royal Dutch Shell, French Total, Italian oil and gas company Eni S.P.A., Norwegian Statoil, Russian Lukoil, and Chinese Sinopec are working in site No. 2 of the South Pars (SP) Gas Field, competing on more active presence in the giant gas field projects, he added during the ceremony held to sign SP phases 15 and 16 development contract in Assaluyeh.

Elaborating on status qua of SP different phases, Torkan noted that phases 1-5 have been put into use, and phases 6-8 will become operational in the current Iranian year (started March 21, 2006).

In addition, phases 9 and 10 have observed 49 percent of physical progress, and phases 15-18 will come on stream in 2010, he stated, adding that development of phases 11-24 will be occurred in site No. 2 of the giant gas field.

The managing director also explained that phases 11-13 are being developed for production of LNG (liquefied natural gas).
