• Prime Minister Tony Blair, aiming to spur construction of nuclear and wind power plants, must raise the cost of pollution permits to discourage natural gas and coal-fired generators, advisers said.

• Paul Morgan, chief executive officer of Regal Petroleum, has resigned with immediate effect, citing personal reasons.

• Aurelian Oil & Gas, which expects to begin production in Romania this quarter, is planning an initial public offering in July or August that will raise as much as £16.7m.

• BP’s Russian venture received $2.18bn in back tax claims at the end of last year and the beginning of 2006.

• Invensys, whose controls run oil refineries and Whirlpool washing machines, raised £341m in a rights offering to cut debt.

• Loadings of North Sea Brent crude, which forms part of the price benchmark for two-thirds of the world’s oil, will fall by about 9pc next month, according to operator Royal Dutch Shell.
