Lloyds List: Shell places two key contracts

Shell has placed two key contracts for the world’s largest gas-to-liquids facility just days after formally launching the project, writes Tony Gray .

Qatar Shell GTL signed a letter of intent with Chiyoda for the engineering, procurement and construction for the feed gas preparation works of the Pearl GTL Project in Ras Laffan Industrial City.

This project for two trains of gas processing units, with a total capacity of 1.6bn cu ft of gas a day, will send feed gas to the GTL core unit for daily production of 140,000 barrels of products.

The project will be completed around the end of the decade.

The work will be executed by a consortium of Chiyoda, as the leader, and South Korea’s Hyundai Heavy Industries.

Meanwhile, Hyundai Engineering ‘ Construction said it won a $775m order from Qatar Shell GTL to build the GTL plant.

Hyundai Engineering is teaming up with Toyo Engineering for construction of the facility.
