Irish Examiner: Corrib opponents not satisfied with re-routing decision

Opponents of the Corrib gas pipeline say they are not satisfied with the decision by Shell Ireland to re-route the controversial structure.

The company announced today that it accepted the recommendation of independent mediator Peter Cassells that the pipeline be moved to another location.

It said it was doing so in order to bring an end to its long-running dispute with local residents in Rossport, Co Mayo.

The Shell to Sea group that has been campaigning against the pipeline said at the time of Mr Cassell’s recommendation that re-routing would simply shift the problem to another location.

It repeated these concerns today, saying the minor changes failed to address the local community’s safety concerns.
