Russia’s environmental watchdog said today it wanted Shell to halt work on the pipelines for its giant Sakhalin 2 oil and gas project for ecological reasons.
The statement quoted the deputy head of the ecological department of Russia’s Resources Ministry, Oleg Mitvol.
Russia’s Energy Ministry, which overseess the project, has repeatedly confirmed the safety of Sakhalin 2 and questioned criticism by the Resources Ministry.
Shell was not immediately available for comment.
