News Advisory:

John Hofmeister, president of Shell Oil Company, will address the National Press Club on Monday, Oct. 23. He is expected to discuss strategies for meeting the nation’s energy needs in an era of increasing international demand for energy resources.

Hofmeister was named president of Houston-based Shell in March 2005 after holding key positions at Shell, General Electric, Nortel and AlliedSignal. He has held positions in Europe and Asia as well as North America.

Hofmeister has advocated development of a wide array of energy resources, including tapping currently off-limits offshore reserves, alternative and renewable supplies and oil shale and oil sands. His address comes at a time of volatile oil prices and increasing uncertainty about the reliability of foreign supplies filling more than half the nations’ oil needs.

The cost of the luncheon is $16 for members and $28 for guests of members. This event is for members and guests only. Credentialed press may cover with appropriate ID.

The National Press Club is located at 14th and F Streets N.W., one block west of Metro Center. More information about the Club and its programs is available at its Web site, http://www.press.org.
