andhracafe.com: Shell to scale up research centre in Banglore

New Delhi, Jan 18 (IANS) Global hydrocarbons major Shell is scaling up its research centre in Bangalore to bring it on par with its two other centres of excellence in the US and Netherlands, a company official said Thursday.

‘We will grow to 500 people by this year end and will be covering all technical aspects. The Shell Technology Institute will be a virtual reality centre,’ Bob Frith, president of Shell Technologies, said here.

The centre, which opened in September, currently has 200 employees.

‘We also intend to develop it into a global research centre. We will grow to 1,000 full time employees in three years,’ Firth told reporters on the margins of the Petrotech 2007 exposition.

‘This centre is to be staffed by 90 percent Indians and the state-of-the-art research centre will be a virtual reality centre which will undertake modelling of reservoirs for exploration.’

The Shell official said that its India centre would undertake international assignments and that the first project was on its way.
