The National Business Review: ComCom clears BOC’s Shell acquisition

NBR Staff

Gas supplier BOC Limited has been given the green light by the Commerce Commission to acquire Shell New Zealand’s LPG holdings – including its LPG business, and its shareholding in Liquigas Limited.

BOC is a wholly owned subsidiary of BOC New Zealand Holdings Limited.

BOC’s New Zealand business centres on delivering LPG cylinders and retailing LPG through its business division, Gas ‘n’ Gear, which operates a cylinder fill service.

The acquisition does not include Shell’s LPG production and supply business or the service station arm of Shell’s current LPG activities.

Commission Chair Paula Rebstock says she is satisfied that the acquisition will not reduce competition in the LPG market.
