• Royal Dutch Shell had the lowest level of oil spills and natural gas flaring in at least a decade last year, while worker fatalities rose, company data showed. The company restarted drilling at the Corrib natural-gas field off the western coast of Ireland, part of a $1.1bn (£558m) project that had been held up by protests.

• Melrose Resources, an oil and natural-gas explorer, said full-year profit fell because of the cost of financing a US acquisition.
