Norway moves away from gas-cartel idea

Norway said it will not consider becoming a member of an international gas producers’ cartel.

The world’s largest natural-gas-exporting nations are holding talks to discuss the possibility of creating a cartel entity on gas pricing, similar to the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries.

According to Russian news agency Interfax, Russian Energy Minister Viktor Khristenko during an industry forum in Qatar on Monday said Moscow is looking at setting up a group to examine pricing.

Energy ministers from Qatar and Iran denied the talks are aimed at creating a gas producers’ version of OPEC.

Those present at the forum included Russia, the world’s largest gas exporter, as well as Norway, Iran, Qatar, Indonesia and Brunei.
