Expatica.com: Shell recalls petrol

17 April 2007

AMSTERDAM – Shell is calling on several hundred customers to contact its customer service department if they bought petrol from the petrol station on the Burgemeester De Zeeuwstraat in Ridderkerk this weekend. The petrol may be harmful for their engine. A Shell spokesperson announced this last night.

An error occurred during a delivery to this particular Shell station on the evening of Friday 13 April, the company says. Because of a human error diesel was mistakenly pumped into an underground petrol tank and petrol was pumped into the diesel tank.

As a result several hundred motorists purchased a mixture of petrol and diesel between 10.30 pm on Friday and 12.30 pm on Sunday afternoon.

The pumps in question were immediately shut down when the error came to light. About 20 cases of damage have been reported so far.

The motorists affected are those who purchased Euro 95, diesel or Shell V-Power petrol. Shell is calling on these customers to contact customer service, which can give them information on what to do.

The Shell station in Ridderkerk was the only one where such an error took place. The supply tanks have now been emptied, the pipes cleaned and the tanks refilled with the proper fuel. The station is operating normally once again.
