Nigerian Tribune: Shell paid FG $3.5bn as tax

Shell Development Petroleum Company (SDPC) paid a total sum of over $3.5 billion in taxes and royalties to the Federal Government in 2006.

According to the 2006 Shell People and Environment Report recently released by the company, Shell paid $2.21 billion Petroleum Profit tax (PPT), $771 million in royalties, $26 million contribution to the Niger Delta Development Commision, $54 million to Education Tax Fund and $594 million royalties paid from Bonga, Abo and his life in one of the incidents.

The company also said that it recorded 89 cases of crude oil theft in the year under review leading to a loss of between 16,000 bpd and 24,000 bpd.

Shell said a total of 207 persons were arrested while 48 tankers, 18 barges and 21 vehicles were seized by security agencies
