Oilweek: Shell Canada transitions into Royal Dutch Shell structure with new leader

CALGARY (CP) _ Shell Canada officially welcomed its new, interim leader Adrian Loader on Thursday, signalling a turnover of senior management as the corporation transitions from a public entity into a unit of its parent Royal Dutch Shell PLC.

Speculation about how the newly privatized company would be run – and by whom – was put to rest Thursday morning with internal and public communications releasing some details of the company‘s refit into Royal Dutch Shell‘s business model.

While some executives, notably oilsands vice president Brian Straub, will remain with the company, others will retire as Shell becomes integrated into its parent‘s global business units.

As the process is carried through, Shell‘s ongoing operations and capital investment projects will be “executed as well as they can possibly be,‘‘ Loader said.

“The one area which obviously shifts is the backdrop in which that culture is played out,‘‘ he said.

Loader replaces Clive Mather as president, but will be titled chair for the country under the new corporate structure where Shell Canada fits into Royal Dutch Shell‘s business units.

“The backdrop correctly and understandably for Shell Canada has been here in Canada, in the future that backdrop will be the world stage.‘‘

Loader flew into Calgary on Tuesday from Europe where he had headed Royal Dutch Shells‘ strategy and business development unit.

The veteran director will manage the transition process until the end of the year, when he expects to be replaced.
