Bolaji Ogundele, Port Harcourt – 01.07.2007

Arrangements have been concluded by major oil giant, Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC), to build a modern town hall in Okori Community in Ogale Clan of Eleme Local Government Area of Rivers State.

As part of its corporate social responsibility to oil producing communities, the SPDC would also embark on a drainage project, as well as the completion of an abandoned water project.

Paramount Ruler of Okori Community, Chief Appolos Chu, dropped the hint, Wednesday, when members of a socio-cultural organization, under the aegis of Asoo Ogale Movement, visited him in his palace.

While pledging to attract more projects to the community, the traditional chief urged the group to evolve a comprehensive framework that will enable youths of the area engage in meaningful ventures such as education and skills acquisition.

The paramount ruler, who expressed satisfaction for the laudable programmes and achievements of Asoo Ogale Movement particularly its scholarship scheme, said the visit was necessary to ensure a better future for the community.

Chief Chu particularly promised to sponsor three indigenes of Ogale Clan to study medicine, law and engineering as well as eight others to acquire skills in various fields, saying particular attention would be placed on the beneficiaries of the scheme because they are “investments of the community”.
