Australian Rock Art: RALLY for the Burrup – Parliament House Perth – Friday 13 July

9 July 2007

Dear Friends

The recent heritage listing of a large tract of the Burrup Peninsula by the Federal Government acknowledges the great importance of the rock art for all Australians. Public pressure is working.

But, despite the listing, Woodside continues to move forward with their unnecessary plans to clear more rock art on Site B; currently excluded from heritage protection by the Federal Government. We must maintain pressure on the WA State Government and Woodside to abandon this wrong-headed policy and demand that the Pluto LNG Plant is relocated off the Burrup.

Friends of Australian Rock Art will be holding a rally at Parliament House Perth at 2pm this Friday. This will be a great opportunity to shift the full focus onto Alan Carpenter MLA, The Premier of Western Australia.

Please come along to ensure that all remaining rock art is preserved.
RALLY for the BURRUP

At: Parliament House, Perth

“The ‘Stand Up for the Burrup’ campaign is a fantastic grassroots effort aimed at lifting the profile of what many regard as Australia’s most significant cultural and historical heritage site. We encourage all Australians to join the campaign to protect the Burrup from unnecessary industrial damage. This is not a case of balancing economic and heritage considerations. Damage to the Burrup is economically unnecessary.”

Joint statement by WA Greens Senator Rachel Siewert, NSW Independant Federal MP Peter Andren, and Dr Carmen Lawrence MP (former WA Premier), Parliament House Canberra, 20 June 2007.
