DHAHRAN, August 01, 2007 —  The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Abdullah ibn ‘Abd al-’Aziz Al-Sa’ud, on July 18 ordered the formation of the Saudi Aramco Board of Directors under the chairmanship of Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Ali I. Al-Naimi.

The new board will serve starting September 27, 2007, and will be composed, in addition to Al-Naimi, of: Dr. Ibrahim A. Al-Assaf, Minister of Finance and Member of the Council of Ministers; Dr. Mohammed I. Al-Suwaiyel, President of King Abdulaziz City for Science & Technology (KACST); Dr. Abdul Rahman A. Al-Tuwaijri, Secretary General of the Supreme Economic Council and Chairman of the Capital Markets Authority; Dr. Khalid S. Al-Sultan, Rector of King Fahd University for Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM); Abdallah S. Jum’ah, president and CEO; Abdulaziz F. Al-Khayyal, senior vice president of Refining, Marketing & International; Khalid A. Al-Falih, senior vice president of Industrial Relations; Salim S. Al-Aydh, senior vice president of Engineering and Project Management; James W. Kinnear, former president and CEO of Texaco; Mark Moody-Stuart, former Chairman of the Royal Dutch/Shell Group; and Peter Woicke, former Executive Vice President of the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and Managing Director of the World Bank.
 
Al-Sultan, Al-Aydh, Moody-Stuart and Woicke are new members of the board. Dr. Khalid S. Al-Sultan is the fourth rector of KFUPM and the first graduate of that institution to hold this position.  He also has served as the Kingdom’s Deputy Minister for Educational Affairs.

He received a Ph.D. in industrial and operations engineering and a M.S. in applied mathematics from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, in 1990.  Prior to that, he obtained a M.S. in systems engineering from KFUPM in January 1987, and a B.S. in systems engineering, KFUPM, in January 1985.

Salim Al-Aydh assumed the position of senior vice president of Engineering & Project Management in 2002, and has more than 30 years of experience in a wide range of company operations. He joined the company in September 1970, and, after completion of apprentice training, he worked as an operator in the Ras Tanura Terminal until 1976, when he was selected for the College Degree Program.

After receiving his B.S. in mechanical engineering from the University of Tulsa in 1979, Al-Aydh had several engineering, operations and maintenance assignments with the Terminal and Ju‘aymah Gas Plant departments before becoming manager of Terminal Maintenance Department in 1988. His assignments then placed him in areas of increased responsibilities, including manager of the Terminal Operations, Marine and East/West Pipelines departments.

In 1992, Al-Aydh was named general manager of Pipelines. In 1993, he became general manager of Domestic Joint Venture Coordination until he was appointed vice president of Downstream Development and Coordination in 1994. In addition to his regular duties, he was appointed as chairman of the board of Luberef in 1995 and a board member of Petrolube. 

Beginning in 1996, Al-Aydh served as vice president of Saudi Aramco Affairs for three years, before becoming vice president of Southern Area Gas Operations. In 2001, he became senior vice president of Gas Operations.

Mark Moody-Stuart is the Chairman of Anglo American plc, a group of global natural resource companies. From 1998 to 2001, he served as Chair of the Royal Dutch/Shell Group of companies, after a career working for Shell in The Netherlands, Spain, Oman, Brunei, Nigeria, Turkey, Malaysia and the United Kingdom. He also serves on the boards of HSBC Holdings plc, Accenture Ltd, and the Global Reporting Initiative.

Moody-Stuart serves as a Governor of Nuffield Hospitals and is President of the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine. In 2000 and 2001, he was co-chairman of the G8 Task Force on Renewable Energy.

He also chaired Business Action for Sustainable Development, a joint initiative of the International Chamber of Commerce and the World Business Council for Sustainable Development in the run up to the World Summit on Sustainable Development in Johannesburg, 2002.

Moody-Stuart is a member of the UN Secretary General’s Advisory Council on the Global Compact and was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in 2000.

Peter Woicke has been the non-executive director of Anglo American plc and Plug Power Inc., a leading fuel cell company, since 2006.

With a degree in Business Administration from the University of Saarbrücken in Germany, he had a long and distinguished career of nearly 30 years with J.P. Morgan, holding several management positions in Beirut, London, Brazil, New York and Singapore.

Beginning in 1994, Woicke served as a member of J.P. Morgan’s Executive Management Committee for four years before being appointed Executive Vice President of IFC and Managing Director of the World Bank.
