ASABA—DIRECTOR of Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) in charge of Western Division, Mr. Ubaka Emelumadu said yesterday in Asaba that the killer kerosene that had been causing havoc was condensate illegally scooped from ‘Otorogun Field’ which was sold to  unsuspecting members of the public as kerosene.

Emelumadu who led a team of SPDC officials on courtesy call on the state Deputy Governor, Prof. Amos Utuama has therefore called on Government to take decisive actions towards stamping out bunkering activities, noting that “bunkering endangers the lives of the people”.

He also used the occasion to tell the deputy governor that Shell was making efforts to re-enter Delta State and called on the state government to provide the enabling environment especially by intervening in the crisis at Ogulagha and Omadino communities while pledging the company’s assurance to have a good relationship with the host communities.

Responding, the state Deputy Governor, Prof Utuama expressed regret over killer kerosene which was as a result of illegal bunkering.

“This”, he said “is of great concern to the state government because it endangers public safety. We will continue to enlighten our people on the dangers of scooping petroleum products from burst pipes; the problem is a huge one and it will require huge effort to stamp out”, he stated.

He further stated that the state government was committed to speedy development of the oil producing communities and ready to partner with oil companies to bring development to host communities as soon as possible “so that they will live a more comfortable and more humane life”.
