Sinopec: Major petchems project with Dow, Shell and PIC

Chinese petrochemicals conglomerate Sinopec (Beijing; www.sinopec.com) in partnership with Kuwait’s Petrochemical Industries Company (PIC, Sabanihya; www.pic.com.kw), Dow Chemical (Midland, Michigan / USA; www.dow.com) and Shell (London / UK; www.shell.com) is conducting a feasibility study on a USD 5 bn project to be built in China’s Guangdong province on the premises of Guangzhou Petrochemical at Nansha.

Alongside a refinery with output of 12m of crude oil per day, it would include a cracker with capacity for 800,000-1m t/y of ethylene. The plans were approved by Chinese authorities in 2006.
