Belfast Telegraph: Shell condemns protestors after Bellanaboy site invasion

Friday, September 14, 2007

Shell Ireland has condemned the actions of protestors who trespassed onto its Bellanaboy refinery site in Co Mayo this morning.

A large group of Shell to Sea protestors was bussed into the area this morning to take part in a sit-down blockade of the site.

However, at least 50 people climbed into the compound in an effort to disrupt construction work.

Five protesters were arrested and two Gardai were injured.

Shell Ireland says it has no problem with peaceful demonstrations and has criticised Shell to Sea for failing to control the people involved in today’s incident.
