LONDON (Thomson Financial) – Royal Dutch Shell PLC said the 285,000-barrel per day Port Arthur oil refinery in Texas was shut down after Hurricane Humberto struck the area, causing widespread power cuts.
The refinery is run by Houston-based Motiva Enterprises LLC, jointly owned by Shell and Saudi Aramco.
‘The Port Arthur electric utility has experienced widespread outage in its service area as a result of Hurricane Humberto,’ Shell said.
‘The Motiva Port Arthur Refinery was affected and all units were shut down as a result,’ it added.
Port Arthur is one of Motiva’s three main refineries which produce a combined 865,000 barrels a day.
