Shell China and Shanghai Clean Energy Research And Industry Promotion Center have jointly announced the completion of a six-month sample operation of gas to liquid operations.
The sample operation was conducted in Shanghai from November 28, 2006 to May 31, 2007. During the period, GTL was reportedly used on four unmodified buses with Euro II emission standards. The result shows that this kind of fuel works effectively in reducing the generation and emission of dark smoke, fine articles and other chemicals.
According to a test done by the State Automobile Quality Supervision and Test Center, compared with EU II standard diesel oil, Shell’s GTL can reduce the particulate matter by 35%, NOx by 15%, and Carbon Monoxide and Carbon Dioxide by 13% and 4%, respectively.
However, it is yet unknown when this kind of clean energy can be fully promoted on the market.
