Speaking on the occasion of the disbursement of the loan facilities and handover of boats in Yenagoa, SPDC Acting Community Affairs Director, Mr. Emmanuel Etomi said the gesture was in line with the company’s commitment to delivering on its promises to the people of its host communities.

According to him, over eleven thousand persons from 93 host communities had benefited from the first and second phase of the scheme earlier held in Warri, which amounted to N558million.

“SPDC’’, he noted, “have also engaged ten workers per community to patrol River Pennington, Dodo and Ramos where most of the communities are located in Bayelsa State.”

Mr. Etomi also listed some of the company’s on going efforts aimed at impacting positively on the lives of the people to include inauguration of Community Trusts (CTs) and Community Development Board (CDBs) in three of its four clusters in respect of GMoUs and the cleaning up of the Brass Creek Spill caused by vandals which he said would last eight weeks.

On youth empowerment he said, “Some 24 youths from the 12 EA communities are undergoing training in different vocations, under our Youth Training and Empowerment Programme. On graduation, the benefiting youths will be assisted to become self reliant, through granting of loans and the provision of starter packs to enable them to establish their own businesses.”
