Reuters: Shell eyes Ormen Lange restart late Monday

OSLO, Dec 3 (Reuters) – Anglo-Dutch energy group Shell (RDSa.L: Quote, Profile, Research) is testing its Ormen Lange gas field in the Norwegian Sea after a shutdown on Friday, and plans to restart production late on Monday, Shell’s Norwegian unit said.

“Ormen Lange is not back up, for the time being we are still testing,” said Kitty Eide, Shell’s spokeswoman in Norway.

“We hope to begin the start-up process late today. Shortly afterwards, production should be back to normal capacity.”

Norway’s StatoilHydro STL.O, which on Friday handed over operatorship of the big gas field to Shell, said last week that production should be restarted on Sunday. Norwegian media reported that the shutdown was caused by a minor leak.

Ormen Lange, on line since October, is expected to produce up to a fifth of British gas needs when at full capacity. It is linked to Britain through the Langeled pipeline crossing the North Sea. (Reporting by Wojciech Moskwa)
