Chima Ibeneche has been appointed the new managing director of Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas. Ibeneche, who until this new appointment was the immediate former managing director of Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company had led SNEPCo into its new phase of deepwater production through the well-managed start up and production of Bonga.

With this latest movement of Ibeneche, he becomes the first indigenous managing director of NLNG..

Meanwhile, Basil Omiyi, presently managing director of Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC), and country chair, Shell Nigeria, has also been appointed as a full-time chair of Shell in Nigeria as from January 1 2008. He will have to operate from Abuja as against his present location, Port Harcourt, the operational base of Shell.

The appointment of a full-time chairman for Shell companies in Nigeria, according to a press statement by Precious Okolobo, the company’s spokesperson, reflects the importance of Shell Nigeria to the Shell Group, and the growing importance of its interface with the executive, legislative and judicial arms of government.

However, Ann Pickard, who until now has been executive vice president, Shell Exploration and Production in Africa, will now double as executive vice president for exploration and production in Nigeria.

Mutiu Sunmonu, who at present is SPDC’s production director, will be vice president production, with responsibility for all production activities across Africa.

Sunmonu will also be the managing director of SPDC. He will be responsible for oil and gas production offshore and onshore in Africa, including Cameroun, Gabon and will be based in Port Harcourt.
