Shell said a gasoline-making fluid catalytic cracking unit at the company’s Deer Park, refinery is scheduled to resume operation late next week after maintenance.

Dave McKinney, a company spokesman, commented on the refinery in an e-mail today. Shell said Jan. 17 it was shutting the unit, along with a hydrotreater, alkylation unit and three sulfur recovery plants, for repairs.

U.S. gasoline prices have increased as refineries took units out of service for repairs. The average pump price for regular gasoline was $3.053 a gallon yesterday, the highest since Jan. 15, according to AAA, the nation’s largest motoring club.

Reformulated gasoline futures, which represent wholesale prices, rose to a record $2.6169 a gallon in New York on Tuesday.

Shell’s Deer Park refinery is the company’s largest plant in the U.S., able to process 340,000 barrels of oil a day, according to Energy Department and company data.
